If you have ever had a collectionHQ support question then you will know Yau-Loon. He joined collectionHQ in 2011 and, as Implementation and Support Consultant, he helps our customers set up and use the tool effectively to improve their collection performance. Outside of collectionHQ, Yau-Loon is kept busy by his little boy, Luke, who thinks that 5:30am during the weekend is the best time to wake up and play dinosaurs. We caught up with Yau-Loon for our August ‘Meet the Team’ feature:
What’s your favourite thing about working at collectionHQ?
The variety. The support/implementation world brings up a variety of questions from customers and colleagues. Every day is different which is what attracted me to this job in the first place. Knowing that I get to work on different aspects of the products really keeps me on my toes and get to learn new things about the products every day. The people I work with are not too bad as well… ?
What are you reading at the moment?
Caught out! I’ve not read a novel for a while. Since my son was born I’ve not had the time. Pre 2014 I enjoyed reading the Conn Iggulden’s Emporer “Conqueror” series and Simon Scarrow’s “Roman” series too. Bit of a theme here. I enjoy historical fiction! So I’ve got a bit of catching up to do when I do get the time in maybe 3 years (when do children start ignoring their parents to play on their own?) At the moment reading wise is limited to CBeebies (children’s BBC) comics and children bedtime stories (generally about dinosaurs), the last one was called Gigantosaurus by Jonny Duddle – think “The boy who cried wolf” but with baby dinosaurs and you get the idea. Exciting.
If you could have a conversation with one famous person, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
I guess Bruce Lee if I had to pick someone. I actually want to see how fast he really was in his Jeet Kune Do, never mind having a conversation with him.
Where is your favourite travel destination?
Anywhere where it’s not raining and has a beach for Luke to make sandcastles. The best destination would have been Australia in 2009, had a great time there and would love to go back one day. Recently we went down to Dorset for a family holiday and Weymouth beach was amazing, beautiful beach. A few more U.K. destinations planned before we jet off abroad.
What do you love most about public libraries?
Their focus on young children. They seem to have a lot of activities e.g. toddler reading sessions etc to help get them into the libraries and enjoy coming back. We can spend a good couple of hours in our library playing with their toys and looking through the books. It’s certainly not what I used to remember about libraries.
