Acclimitisation
The Acclimatisation Phase is ‘getting to know EBSM’. During Acclimatisation a library will begin to execute many of the EBSM tools for the first time, over a period of approximately 10-12 months.
During this period the library staff will start to get a feel for what is actually achievable. This means that many of the default targets that were set during the Assessment Phase will be refined during Acclimatisation, into more realistic and achievable targets that can actually be met with the available resources applied.
During Acclimatisation, library staff will also start to understand in more detail the scheduling priority that makes most sense to follow, both in terms of the required benefits and also the impact on resources. As this becomes clear, a set of schedules can be put in place across the full range of collections. collectionHQ’s Scheduling module supports this process by allowing staff to create a manageable, interactive calendar of tasks that can be assigned to team members for completion on specified dates.
The Cycle
Acclimatisation is therefore a cyclic stage, during which librarians adapt EBSM to suit their library’s needs. A library will move out of the Acclimatisation Phase when it has a set of schedules in place for all of the collections that it plans to address over the long term, and targets are in place which will change less frequently. collectionHQ’s Scheduling module supports this process by allowing staff to create a manageable, interactive calendar of tasks that can be assigned to team members for completion on specified dates.
The key stages within the Acclimatisation Phase are described below:
Activity | Activity description |
---|---|
EBSM Collection Planning | Planning the order, timing and frequency that collections will be addressed in the medium to long term |
Schedule Refinement | Refining the schedule to use the tools and timings that work best for the library |
Target Refinement | Refining the targets that have been set, into targets that are realistic and achievable for the library |
Refinement Assessment | On a regular basis, assessing the schedule and target refinements that have been made to ensure ongoing best fit with needs |
