Experimentation

Use of the evidence base suggested by EBSM, along with the structured EBSM Framework, Tools and Schedules, does not mean that there will be no room for experimentation. Indeed experimentation is essential within the EBSM methodology to ensure that collection performance and provision can continuously improve to meet local demand.

Experimentation can be most useful where libraries use local intelligence, for example staff contact with customers and other council services, together with feedback from local stakeholders and community profiling.

The EBSM methodology is ideally suited to support experimentation across 2 different areas

However, it is vital that experimentation is closely monitored to assess success or failure. As with all ‘marketing’ initiatives, the final outcome will only ever be as good as the analysis of the experiment.
